    Bring your nursery, school or college to one of Essex Wildlife Trust’s outstanding education facilities or we can bring our expertise to you.

    Exploring the great outdoors is incredibly worthwhile for all ages. Students will gain knowledge and develop practical skills through programmes linked to the curriculum or make use of numerous enrichment opportunities at our education centres or at your site. We cater for all ages and abilities. We also offer: Forest School, schools outreach, and INSET training .

    Site Summary
    • 210 hectares (461 acres)
    • Langdon nature reserve is the largest inland reserve managed by Essex Wildlife Trust.
    • Wildlife garden, woodland, meadows, lakes and former plotland gardens.
    • Museum of Plotland Life.
    Site History
    • The site once accommodated 200 ‘plotland bungalows’.
    • The Plotland properties were built by families (mainly from London's East End).
    • Although originally intended as holiday homes, the Second World War meant that many families came to live in their Plotland homes permanently.
    • The Haven is now a museum, dedicated to showing people what life was like during the difficult years of the 1930s and 1940s.
