    Although the Mill is closed for restoration, the visitor centre is open for pre-arranged school visits. Enquires should be sent to education@upminsterwindmill.org

    The Old Chapel which is literally across the road from the windmill, has had connections to the windmill during its lifetime.

    Site Summary
    • Built by local farmer James Nokes in 1803.
    • For more than 130 years the wooden Smock Mill, so named because it is shaped like an agricultural worker’s smock, produced flour for the people of Upminster.
    • It is a Grade II* listed building and in terms of quality, completeness and significance it is widely considered to be amongst the very best remaining English smock mills.
    • The windmill is currently being restored to working order.
